Speedpaint

I couldn't sleep. So I did this instead. Which is awesome since I haven't practiced painting in a while but also sucks since now I'm even more awake.
Also, pooh pooh on how the colors changed from the photoshop file to the blogspot upload. I've been seeing a lot of disrepancies between monitors, and I can't even imagine how acid the colors would look on another screen. Yaah!

Turtle girl.

Here's my waterfall spirit character design for this semester's vis-def class.
I know most kappas are guys, but I don't think they'd be able to multiply through binary fission, so there you go.

Woot.

This winter vacation, I had a really hard time stoking myself up to finish projects and get some practice done.
Can't say I managed to do a whole lot after all, but I got at least some paintings done on the last stretch of the break. Some of them are too guh-ugly to show to anyone, but here's some that make me cringe less than others.
La!

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone will have even better luck this year :D
Here's the final project for BFA..I finally got around to uploading it, and I'm definitely going to work on some of the background works over this winter break.
The story for this project is based on Kobo Abe's "The Magic Chalk" story, about a starving artist named Argon who came upon a magic chalk in his pocket that lets anything he draws with it come to life.
It's set in post-WWII San Francisco, so I made Argon a self-made hippie artist..which made him a lot more fun to draw, actually.

Sorta kinda maybe more awake today...

Since I fell asleep yesterday trying to crank out more drawings and passed out in front of my computer....le oops!
How is everyone doing? not that I even know if there are people reading this blog..but there's a number of people that I haven't seen for a while now and here's hoping that I'll be able to see some of you guys during vacation time.
But ya...work flow's been doing ok and my classmates are super cool this year. It's been real nice to see how people's work are in their last year especially since I knew some of them waaayyy back from the "duh...whatsa gesture?" days of 28.
They've all been working hard, and it's obviously showing in their work.

Enough talk tho. Here's a snippet from a project that I've been wrestling with for the past few weeks.

The big top has rolled into town....

And I'm still flailing around trying to figure out where I'm running.
For the first BFA project we're told to follow a specific artist's style, and I chose Neil Campbell Ross as my person.
Who, by the way, is such a skilled painter that I'm actually embarassed about following his lead.
Here's hoping that I can come up with something worthy.
In the meantime, here's a messy little thumbnail I was playing around with. Maybe it'll lead to something, or maybe it won't.

Barefoot coffee roasters

Has this really awesome cafee brulee, which was blow-torched right in front of me once the order was ready. Haha! I'd recommened that if anyone's going there, and get the kouign amann since those are great too.

I was originally aiming for practicing around 1-2 hours and get on with homework, but this painting turned into a 3-4 hour behemoth which I rushed at the end. Oops. Plus it ended up looking oh so flat after all.....
