Here's a concept I've been working on during after hours. It's an old abandoned observatory, neglected for decades cause no one really cares to walk over that insanely narrow bridge regardless of the awesome view.

Rothmar the Invincible

For many an age, tales have been sung of Rothmar, the fabled slayer of mice men.
His gloried quest against the wickedness of his foes have warmed many a chincilla on a cold, frosty night. They can sleep safely, knowing that Rothmar is their great protector.

Hahaha. And so up there's my quick illustration accompanying the tales told by a fellow artist known as Kelly Ricker. She tells better stories than I do.

Here's an in-progress concept I've been trying to wrap up. There's still some problematic areas I'll have to fix, especially the water reflections..yikes!
An earlier version of this piece was used in a cutscene for a project that's released recently, which is Last Day of Work's Virtual Villagers 5.
You get to see it near the end of the game, but this one's not going to spoil the story in case anyone's playing it :p

Sam Beam

This one's dedicated to Samuel Beam (or as he's more known, Iron and Wine) and his epic beard.
Absolutely dig his music, especially Boy With a Coin and Resurrection Fern.

Happy New Year!

More photo based practice..just to take the rust off in between lunch breaks. Hoping this year will bring more good work, and better results!
I've been listening to a lot of Iron and Wine lately. It's such a great background music to work with, and Sam Beam is just an awesome musician, period.

Gallery Feature

Next year my company is sponsoring a game artist gallery show in tandem with GDC 2011, and one of my pieces is being featured at the event's website.
This isn't going to be shown in the gallery though, it's just a promo :p

This one's a released campaign banner background for the Vampire Wars game. We had a ton of characters to cram in, so the proportions and spacing are unfortunately cheated some. It ended up being covered in the final result though, but right now the vampire prince and his minions are taking a break off-screen.

Funny thing is, before I left 2K and moved to a new company one of the artists there asked if I was going to be working on teeny little matte paintings at my new job. I didn't realize it at the time, but that guy's definitely one heck of a prophet.

more game stuff

For my stint at MLB2K10, these little cars were pretty fun to work on.
This is one of the textures I painted for the San Francisco AT&T stadium model, in place of the Chevron Cars mascots.
Game's been out for a while, and I still haven't bought a copy. Hahahahh....gonna have to remedy that soon.
