Artwork for an unreleased online game
As it goes, a year ago I did some freelance work with a company trying to launch an online trading card game. Right as they were preparing to release it though, the plan fell through and I haven't seen any signs of it ever picking up again.
Seeing as it's been a while and the company itself disbanded, I think it's safe to share some of the stuff I worked on..otherwise these guys wouldn't ever see the light of day. It's pretty old but I still liked how some of the characters came out.

Hey look sketches!
So as it goes everyday after work I trudge along the insane Novato heat (why yes, I have been living in the Bay Area since the first day I've been in the US..so spoiled!).
And then proceed to wait in the abandoned theater stop until the next bus comes by. Eventually I got tired of twiddling my thumbs waiting around and bought a new sketch book *gasp*
Can't tell what a relief it is for me to actually do something instead of staring off into the distance....

Fun times in an airplane hangar.....
Which seriously doesn't feel like one from inside. I've been trying to paint during my lunch breaks but usually end up messing around in photoshop instead. Duhr....
This is what I get to see outside the huge window in front of my area, in which I get blinded after 5 30 pm rolls by and the sun rays start jabbing me in the eyes.

Trees and more trees
Hmmm...I recently visited Kelly at her house in San Luis Obispo (never been there!) and dragged her to go out painting with me at a beach near her house.
It was all fun and good until I realized that the sand got mixed up with my paints after a while. Talk about plein air painting doy...you can see the grains that are stuck in which is pretty cool, although mixing the paint got frustrating after it creates this gunky and heavy texture.

I've been....
Stressed out for no good reason.
Maybe aside from graduating in a couple of weeks? ha!
Anyway...here's a fanboat design I've been working on for a vis-def class I'm taking this semester. Forgot to submit this one to the BFA gallery, but I guess it would've been funny since I already have a bunch of spreads with ship-related designs on them.
Which is funny since it totally would've made me look like such a vehicle designer, doh.
Please do come by and check out the BFA gallery opening this Tuesday, you guys. Hopefully I'll get to see some people I haven't seen in a long time.

Spring is here...
And I want to run to the opposite direction. I've been getting some godawful allergic reactions and got my first fever of the year earlier this week. Ehhhh......
But duh..time to try to catch up on everything now.
Here's a redo of one of my previous projects..for some reason everyone seems to gravitate to this particular design so I just gave up and painted straight on top of it. Yea.

Wut wut wut.....
Guh haven't had time to do any practice paintings..just pieces after pieces. Which is pretty cool since I get to switch gears every time my project workflow feels stale and ugh.
So here's a WIP exterior I've been working on..the interior version I had for this particular project bombed so I'm definitely putting it in my -fix it sooner or later- folder.
Meanwhile, have a cool and safe springbreak my peeps, and I'll see some of you guys when we drop by LA.

Speedpaint
I couldn't sleep. So I did this instead. Which is awesome since I haven't practiced painting in a while but also sucks since now I'm even more awake.
Also, pooh pooh on how the colors changed from the photoshop file to the blogspot upload. I've been seeing a lot of disrepancies between monitors, and I can't even imagine how acid the colors would look on another screen. Yaah!

Turtle girl.
Woot.
This winter vacation, I had a really hard time stoking myself up to finish projects and get some practice done.
Can't say I managed to do a whole lot after all, but I got at least some paintings done on the last stretch of the break. Some of them are too guh-ugly to show to anyone, but here's some that make me cringe less than others.
La!

Happy New Year!
Hope everyone will have even better luck this year :D
Here's the final project for BFA..I finally got around to uploading it, and I'm definitely going to work on some of the background works over this winter break.
The story for this project is based on Kobo Abe's "The Magic Chalk" story, about a starving artist named Argon who came upon a magic chalk in his pocket that lets anything he draws with it come to life.
It's set in post-WWII San Francisco, so I made Argon a self-made hippie artist..which made him a lot more fun to draw, actually.
